Alabama Home Reveal

Welcome to the first entire home reveal on the blog.  This home was listed in January so I have been patiently waiting to share all of these amazing photos.

Before

A little bit of back story on this purchase.  I stumbled across this house last summer and as I was walking through I decided to do a Facebook live so that people could have the experience of walking through a house with me as I decided if it had potential.

I know these photos aren’t high-quality but it give you an idea of what we were working with!

The layout of this house was unique in that it is a 1 ½ story home but the upper level was much more spacious than is typical in this style of home.  It allowed us to create an amazing master suite upstairs like no other. We also were able to finish the basement and add a family room, bedroom, bathroom, flex space and laundry area.

After

The Kitchen

We opened up the wall dividing the kitchen from the living room.  We also closed off a second doorway from the kitchen to the hallway that wasn’t needed.  This allowed us space in the kitchen for the peninsula and the open shelving.

Dining Room and Living Room

Leaving the fireplace intact was quite a decision.  It’s an incredible focal point but it needed to be converted to gas which cost almost the same amount as removing it entirely.  At the end of the day it adds a cozy, original charm that feels right in the space.  We did remove the book shelf on the right side to open it to the dining room for a more spacious feel and flow.  The best detail here is the original ceiling cove and trim we retained.  Those types of features just cannot be replicated.

Main Floor Bath

Main floor bath spaces in older homes are often on the small side.  This makes them perfect candidates for a fun graphic tile that adds character and since it is ceramic is easy to maintain.  To balance the floor the tub surround is done in a classic white 3×6 tile.

Master Suite

The most talked about space during the open house was the master suite.  With a mini bar, private bath with dual vanities, stunning shower, marble tile and counter tops and a walk-in closet you can see why people were reluctant to leave this space.

Lower Level

This space was empty and unfinished…one of my favorite finds is unused space.  Adding a family room (with another mini bar area), a fourth bedroom, an additional bathroom and a flex space allowed this home to live large and accommodate plenty of guests when entertaining or hosting.
